Police News - Heywood

Inspector Steve Hanlon says: "We are making progress with the burglary problem with reductions again this week. Possibly due to the conviction of a juvenile offender who will be off the streets for at least six months.

"There are to be officers in plain clothes over the weekend to continue with the efforts to reduce the amount of burglaries our community has suffered. I would ask all of you to please report any suspicious activities and pass any details of any persons or vehicles you believe may be committing crime.

"Anti-social behaviour is on the increase at Darnhill and I am placing more staff in the area to deal with this, as well as extra officers in Heywood Town Centre this weekend.

Operation Forward

Officers from Heywood Neighbourhood staff were out over the weekend working in both uniform and plain clothes to tackle the anti-social behaviour that is occurring in the town centre.

On Thursday a group of youths entered Morrisons and began throwing food items at each other in the store. Clearly this behaviour is unacceptable. CCTV of the incident has been viewed and positive action will be taken against those concerned.

Friday night (7 February) stones were being thrown at passing taxis and we recovered a mini motorbike being driven without insurance or a driving license.

This work will continue until the anti-social behaviour ceases. Other methods to tackle it have been Unsuccessful and attempts to reason with both the youths and their parents have proved unsuccessful therefore any offenders for future incidents will be dealt with robustly.

If any information can be provided in relation to these incidents we can be contacted on 0161 856 8701 and it will be dealt with in confidence.

Parents, please could we ask you to stress the dangers of throwing stones at passing cars and the repercussions of anti-social behaviour in the community.
