Question Time for Sixth Form College law students

Date published: 10 February 2015

A group of 23 law students from Rochdale Sixth Form College recently joined a host of local solicitors for the Law Society’s Question Time event.

Andrew Caplen, President of the Law Society, hosted Question Time, which took place at Rochdale Town Hall, opening the event by outlining his priorities for the coming year.

Three of the select group, who were the only students in attendance at the event, took the opportunity to ask Andrew Caplen questions on current legal issues apparent in Rochdale.

Areas of interest were the current issues affecting the training of barristers and solicitors as well as the decrease in legal funding for criminal matters.

All questions were delivered seamlessly and were received very well, Jenna Taylor, Teacher of Law at the college comments “Our students were a credit to Rochdale Sixth Form College at this event, thriving and remaining professional in an unfamiliar environment. It gave them a broader understanding of current issues within law – and not just the ones covered in the exam.”

AS Level Law student, Declan Young said “I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the President of the Law Society, he was a brilliant, engaging public speaker. I have taken a lot of knowledge from the Question Time event and it has definitely furthered my ambition to go into law.”
