Rotary Club of Rochdale East folk night raises £750 for charity

The Rotary Club of Rochdale East folk night has raised £750 for charity.

Held on Friday 6 February at Rochdale Cricket Club, the event, organised by Rotarian Ian Smith, was a sell-out.

Hindle Wakes, a folk group consisting of Ian Smith, John Gill and Tom Hindley, opened the evening having previously performed for the Rotary Club at other charity events.

Another performer making a return visit was Dialect poet Sally James. Sally is a Lancashire poet who writes many of her poems in the indigenous dialect and idioms of Lancashire.

She also writes in Standard English and the group were delighted to see her back performing at the charity event.

That’s All Folk, the Rochdale Music Service Folk Group, also took to the stage and an excellent performance delighted the packed audience.

The final act of the evening was Becket, who made their first appearance at a Rotary charity event.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club said: “The club is extremely grateful to all of the acts who performed for us on the evening who as well as making it a thoroughly entertaining evening, also gave their services free of charge.

“The money raised from the event will be donated to Rotary International Charities.”
