Woman attacked and robbed

Date published: 06 February 2015

A woman from Rochdale was pushed to the ground and robbed of her jewellery during an attack in broad daylight.

At 11.30am on Thursday 5 February 2015, the 64-year-old victim was walking Maple Street at the junction with Beech Street, Sparthbottoms, Rochdale, when she was approached from behind by two men.

They pushed her to the pavement and pinned her down, holding their hands across her face while pulling the gold bangles from her wrist.

The offenders were then disturbed by a passer-by and ran off down Beech Street towards Heath Street.

The first offender is described as white with a bald head. He was wearing a dark blue tracksuit.

The second offender was wearing a balaclava covering his whole head and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit.

Detective Sergeant David Gill said: “This was an aggressive robbery and was understandably distressing for the victim, who was manhandled and held down on the ground as they pulled the jewellery from her wrist.

“Despite being disturbed they managed to escape with a considerable amount of gold, worth approximately £3,200.

“The brazen nature of an attack of this sort in broad daylight is worrying and it is important that we try and track this pair down as quickly as possible.

“We have issued pictures of the jewellery stolen, so if someone tries to sell anything resembling these items to you, or you recognise it elsewhere, we urge you to contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 55 111.
