Rock Choir record at Abbey Road Studios

Date published: 03 February 2015

Members of the Rock Choir from Norden, Littleborough and Middleton got the chance to go to Abbey Road Studios on Saturday (31 January).

Altogether, 150 members of the choir travelled to the studio with choir leader Phil Reynolds to record a number of tracks.

Tracks recorded included Someone Like You, Time after Time and Viva La Vida.

Speaking about the experience, Mr Reynolds said: “It is certainly one of the biggest things we have ever done as the Rock Choir. Everyone really enjoyed it and some of those who went along are still giddy about it now so it has gone down really well. Certainly a once in a lifetime thing.”

Whilst at the studio, the choir got to work with a sound engineer who has worked on film scores for Harry Potter, Skyfall and Lord of The Rings as well as recording music backed by a string section.

Mr Reynolds added: “I used to be a bass player so I got some of my friends involved who are musicians and we had a live string session to record the music with. That way we didn’t have to do it with backing tracks, we did it with live music.”

The trip to the studio was arranged so the choir could experience what it was like to be in the studio but it is hoped that a CD will soon follow.

With the Rock Choir celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, the choir is gearing up for a number of events throughout the year.

“We have two shows at Birmingham Arena in June and then some more local things coming up but this has been the biggest thing we have done and probably will do.

“Some choir members even got to meet Liam Gallagher on the train so they have really had a rock and roll experience,” added Mr Reynolds.
