Oulder Hill students prepare to visit Battlefields

Oulder Hill Community School

Two Year 10 students, Lois Wrest and Maria Asif, will be visiting the Battlefields of Northern France and Belgium from 8 to 11 February.

These students have been selected to represent Oulder Hill and will be travelling with students from 14 other schools from the North West as part of the Government scheme in which two students from every state-funded secondary school in England visit the Battlefields as part of the Centenary commemorations.

This is big honour for those two students, and they will be doing some follow-up work on their return to share their experiences with other Oulder Hill students. We hope they have an enjoyable time on what will be an inspiring and rewarding visit.

A group of Year 10 Health and Social Care students will be out on Work Experience during the week commencing Monday 2 February. They will be visiting a variety of workplaces including nurseries, care homes and primary schools as part of their GCSE coursework. We hope they have an interesting and enjoyable week.

Our next ‘Drop Everything and Read’ (DEAR) session takes place during afternoon tutorial on Thursday 5 February. The aim of DEAR is to create a culture of reading for pleasure and to eradicate the stigma attached to reading. Students and staff will be taking part, and they will be encouraged to read from a variety of materials including books, newspapers and magazines.

The next Parent Forum meeting takes place on Thursday 5 February from 6:00pm until 7:30pm in the LRC. New and existing members are welcome to attend.
