Armed robbery at Middleton Co-Op

Date published: 15 January 2015

Three men stormed into the Co-Op shop on Kenyon Lane, Middleton this afternoon (Thursday 15 January) and battered a cashpoint with hammers. It is understood that a fourth man waited outside while his accomplices tried to break open the device.

The men were unable to crack open the cash machine and left empty handed. They fled the scene in a Silver VW Golf along Oldham Road - the car was later found abandoned.

Police were called to the scene at 12.25pm with dog teams from GMP sent out to search for the men.

One offender has been described as about 5ft 10in tall, muscular and wearing a black hooded top with a Nike logo on the chest.

A second man was described as between 5ft 11in and 6ft tall, slim and wearing a dark body warmer.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
