Hana Barzinji named Rochdale Sixth Form College 'Student of the Year’

Over 400 guests joined teaching staff at Rochdale Town Hall to see Hana Barzinji named 'Student of the Year’ at the Rochdale Sixth Form College annual leaver’s award ceremony.
Hana said: “I was overwhelmed with shock when my name was called for Student of the Year, I’m really happy and it’s a fantastic end to my first term at university.”
‘Outstanding dedication’ went to Mahum Faisal, ‘outstanding contribution to college life’ to Magdalena Skierniewska, ‘outstanding contribution to performing arts’ to Cara Novotny and ‘outstanding contribution to sport’ to George Wild.
As awards were announced, students joined Julian Appleyard, college principal, on stage to collect their A Level certificates, along with additional awards for progress and achievement in each subject area.
Local MP Simon Danczuk was guest speaker and was presented with a piece of artwork by student Bismah Zafar; college Vice Chairman of Governors, Richard Bramwell also spoke.
Awards were sponsored for £25 each by local and national organisations amd a £250 donation from The Rotary Club of Rochdale East.
