Heywood residents chance to ask questions of Police and Crime Commissioner at public meeting

Date published: 12 January 2015

Residents of Heywood will have the opportunity to air their concerns to Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd when he visits the town on Thursday (15 January).

In 2011 Heywood Police Station was one of 34 stations across Greater Manchester to lose its front counter in a bid to save £1.5m across the force.

In 2013 Heywood and Middleton’s police teams were merged meaning the town no longer had a dedicated inspector with both towns sharing one. Officers were also told they had to clock in and out at Middleton Police station before starting their shift.

During a full meeting of Rochdale Council in October last year, Councillor Peter Rush claimed that Heywood “is not policed for up to 14 hours a week” and raised concerns with councillors regarding the treatment of the town.

He also addressed Councillor Daalat Ali, Rochdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Community, Culture and Tourism, regarding why the Commissioner hadn’t yet been to visit Heywood despite a number of requests from residents and Councillors.

Mr Lloyd was elected as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester in 2012. His role is to be accountable for how crime and community
safety issues are tackled throughout the region.

During the meeting, Mr Lloyd will answer questions that have been submitted in advance.

The meeting will begin at 6:30pm.

To submit a question call Stuart Hay in the Heywood Township Office on 01706 922230 or email stuart.hay@rochdale.gov.uk
