Rail services between Victoria, Rochdale and Todmorden disrupted

Date published: 09 January 2015

Rail services between Manchester Victoria, Rochdale and Todmorden were disrupted by what was reported as a signal failure in the Rochdale area on Wednesday (7 January)..

The 14:48 departure from Victoria to Leeds did not set out nor did the 14:56 to Todmorden.

Shortly after 15:00, it was announced at Victoria announced that Metrolink would accept rail tickets to Rochdale.

The problem was being described on Northern and National Rail web pages as causing delays of up to 30 minutes. In fact, the first services were the 16:48 to Leeds which left Victoria 21 minutes late at 17:09. The first train from Rochdale to Victoria left at 17:14, described as a Leeds train running 51 minutes late having lost six more minutes from Hebden Bridge.

The knock-on effect caused some further cancellations after the trains started running again.

According to RTT the first cancellation at Rochdale was around 14:40. Two Network Rail vans were at the Rochdale West Box with engineers communicating across from the two signal boxes.
