Bamford Christmas tree recycling point highly popular

Date published: 07 January 2015

The Bamford Christmas tree recycling point has been that popular since Christmas that the small square allocated by the council is currently overflowing with discarded Christmas trees.

The recycling point, located opposite Martlet Avenue, was full to the brim on Monday (5 January) but the site was still being used.

Councillor Jacqui Beswick, Cabinet Member for Housing and Environment at Rochdale Council, said: “The council started to clear the recycling points as of 5 January and will continue until 16 January.

“It’s great to see residents recycling their Christmas trees in such large numbers. All the trees collected will be turned into compost.”

This year Rochdale Council has set up 26 sites across the borough for people to recycle their unwanted trees.

In the borough, more than 6,000 trees weighing around 30 tones went from people’s living rooms to a local recycling facility last year with the council expecting that number to rise this year.

For those who still want to recycle Christmas trees, there are two ways that can be done:

• If you have a brown recycling bin, chop it up and put it in the recycling bin.
• Alternatively take it to one of the Christmas tree recycling points.
