Body found in quarry believed to be Middleton actor Trevor Smith

Police searching for missing soap actor Trevor Smith, originally from Middleton have discovered a body.

The 42-year-old, who also went by the surname Hancock, was last seen at his home in Wirksworth, Derbyshire on Monday (5 January) night. Officers searching for the actor discovered a body in a Wirksworth Quarry yesterday (Tuesday 6 January) that they believe to be him.

Derbyshire Police issued an appeal yesterday to find the actor after his sudden disappearance. Trevor was described as having plaster casts on both of his wrists when he was reported missing just before 10pm on Monday.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

No formal identification has yet taken place but in a statement, Police said: “Police searching for a missing man have discovered a body in a Wirksworth quarry.

“Officers believe that the body found is Trevor Smith, who was also known as Trevor Hancock. Mr Smith was reported missing on Monday 5 January at 9.49pm where he was last seen at his address in Wirksworth.

“Police can confirm that there are no suspicious circumstances.”

Trevor had been a professional actor since 1991 and trained at Manchester’s Arden School of Theatre from 1996 to 1999.

In 1999 he appeared in Coronation Street as Kevin Dolan – a valuer from the estate agents who were selling the soaps shop, The Kabin.

He also appeared in two episodes of Emmerdale and also had roles in Hollyoaks, Channel 4 drama No Angels and ITV’s The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.

He was also the co-founder and artistic director of the Men In Dressing Gowns Theatre Company in Derbyshire.
