Heywood Township Committee meeting as it happened

Date published: 06 January 2015

Monday 5 January
The open forum starts the meeting.

Issues regarding the pilot scheme for business rates, roads and the council leader's New Year message are addressed.

It is announced that the Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd will visit Heywood for a public meeting on Thursday 15 January at 6:30pm. The meeting will be to discuss policing issues in Heywood.

Councillors discuss the issues of Starkey Street and urged the Highways Department to look at other options after a number of traffic concerns were raised by local residents.

The township plan update is next.

Councillor Beswick doesn’t agree with the report and says that councillors have not been consulted. Councillor Lambert adds that a township plan should be dictated by the township. Councillors agree to defer the report until they have been consulted further.

Sites of biological importance are discussed next.

The report discusses four sites within the borough that have seen a change. A site in Heywood located on Meadowcroft is increasing in grade from a grade B to a grade A.

Councillors agree the report.

Non-regulated council car parks are discussed next.

The report discusses plans to give maintenance of free public car parks in Heywood back to the township. The report concerns 14 car parks in Heywood. Councillors welcome the plan and believe that this is a good move for Heywood and means that the township can keep their car parks free.

Councillors agree the report.

Meeting ended.
