Philip Lowthian to receive OBE
Date published: 31 December 2014
Philip Lowthian, from Newbold, an influential figure in the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), will receive an OBE after being included in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.
Mr Lowthian is set to receive the honour for his services to the unemployed in the North West and Manchester.
Originally from Sale, Mr Lowthian moved to Rochdale in 2002 after marrying wife Karen. He started working with the DWP after graduating from the University of Leeds where he studied public administration.
He began his career working on the front counters of the Job Centres before moving up through the management levels to area manager for the Whole of Greater Manchester.
He is now head of Regional Benefits based in Oldham Town Centre.
As part of his job, he spends much of his time overseeing projects to help younger and disabled people into work, training and other opportunities.
An OBE is awarded for having a major local role in any activity, including people whose work has made them known nationally in their chosen area.
