Mercury Prize winners ‘Young Fathers’ to gig in Rochdale

‘Young Fathers’, this year’s Mercury Prize winners, will play an intimate gig at Number One Riverside in Rochdale during their 2015 UK tour.
Their music is described as slinky in attitude, dosed up on dope beats, locked somewhere between De La Soul and 3T, but re-imagined for the hipster generation!
The hip hop trio officially formed in 2008 after they met at a club in Edinburgh. Once they broke through they spent three years touring the UK and Europe and have played at T in the park, Creamfields and Wakestock.
BBC radio presenters Zane Lowe and Vic Galloway are big fans and had the trio make weekly shows on Radio 1 Extra.
They were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for their debut album Dead, which incorporates influences as varied as hip hop, soul, folk, indie, trip hop and African music. Against all odds the group beat 11 other nominees to win the prize.
The Rochdale gig is part of the ‘Get It Loud in Libraries’ programme, aimed at getting young people into libraries and cultural activities.
