Mary Harrison goes quiet to raise cash for the homeless

Date published: 24 December 2014

Residents at the homeless units at Great Howarth and Leopold Court are in for a festive bonus after Mary Harrison raised £160 with a sponsored silence.

Mary, described as a 'mega mouth' by her colleagues, stayed quiet for an entire shift to raise the money to buy food and presents for residents at the two homeless units.

The total raised was bumped up to £308 by RBH homeless service colleagues who completed a sponsored walk from Littleborough to Hebden Bridge, raising £148.

Mary said: “Christmas time can be the most enjoyable time for the majority of people, but it can be a very sad time for many. I hope I have raised a little cheer by staying silent, which was the hardest thing I have ever done."
