RBH tenants living in ‘unfit conditions’

Date published: 23 December 2014

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) has belatedly agreed to help two tenants who are living in 'unfit conditions' after originally telling them they could only be seen in the New Year.

David and Karon Langley, who live at an address in Pershore, Lower Falinge, have recently been experiencing what they thought was condensation in the main bedroom of their house. After a recent period of heavy rain, the couple realised that this was not the issue.

Karon has recently come out of hospital and the couple’s youngest son is suffering from chest infections, something they believe the condition of the room must be contributing to.

On Sunday 14 December, the couple phoned the out of hours repair service at RBH as the bedroom carpet was “sopping wet”. They state that they were told the “out of hour’s service would not come out for this problem” and that they 'would report it on behalf of the couple'".

The couple then followed up their original enquiry on Tuesday 16 December and were told that the issue had not been reported and the earliest they could be seen was Thursday 8 January.

An RBH spokesperson said: “We received concerns from a tenant on Lower Falinge on Tuesday 16 December. On Friday 19 December at 10am two RBH technical officers carried out an inspection and agreed a course of action to resolve these concerns.”
