Two men viciously assaulted during Christmas party, leaving one with a broken jaw

Date published: 22 December 2014

Two men were seriously assaulted at their work’s Christmas party in the Grapes Pub in Norden.

At around 9.30pm on Friday 19 December 2014, a 29-year-old man was stood in the rear car park when he was set upon by four or five men, who attacked while standing just yards away from the pub, which was full of festive revellers.

When he realised what was happening, the 26-year-old leapt to the man’s aid, attempting to intervene before the gang of thugs turned their attention to him.

The 26-year-old was then chased by the men, who caught up and viciously assaulted him, leaving him with a broken jaw after stamping repeatedly on his head.

The men then ran off towards War Office Road.

One of the offenders is described as white, around 26 or 27 years old, 5ft 11in with short, black hair, stocky build and roughly shaven face. He was wearing a blue top with horizontal stripes.

Detective Constable Russ Clark said: “What started as a night full of festive cheer quickly turned into a nightmare before Christmas for these two victims, who were left with head and facial injuries as a result of the violent actions of a few thugs.

“It is clear that the pub was packed with people enjoying Christmas parties and drinks with friends and family, so I am hopeful that someone saw something that may assist us with this investigation.

“The attack took place near to the smoking area at the rear of the pub, so if you, your friends or family went out for a cigarette around the time of the attack, I would ask that you contact police on the number below.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8424 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
