Whitworth Road flood damage
Whitworth Road re-opened this afternoon Wednesday (17 December) after over two weeks of closure due to a burst water main.
United Utilities first expected the road to be closed for five days but due to repairs taking longer than expected, the re-opening has been pushed back.
A spokesperson for United Utilities said: “A temporary repair was carried out on the water pipe on Thursday 11 December and the pipe had a permanent fix on Friday 12 December. Unfortunately making good the damage to the highway and footpath due to the burst has taken a little longer than expected and as agreed with the council the road is due to open on Friday 19 December.”
However, with the repairs completed, the road was opened this afternoon.
A section of Whitworth Road near to Dunelm was closed on Wednesday 3 December after a water mains burst causing extensive flooding.
