Over 400 people gathered at Hollingworth Lake Visitor Centre this morning (Sunday 14 December), despite the wind and rain, to show their support for Springhill Hospice.

The annual Santa Dawdle or Dash saw men, women, children and dogs come together dressed as Santa to raise vital funds for the Hospice.

Now in its ninth year, the event saw a record number of people take part.

Pearl Benbow, organiser of the event, said: “I am so glad to see that the event is still so well supported. The number of people here this year is amazing and by God, its going to get bigger and bigger.”

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk set runners and walkers off from the Hollingworth Lake Visitor Centre at 11am and said: “As Rochdale’s Member of Parliament it is fantastic to see so many people here supporting this fantastic cause.”

Louise Scott, from H Bell and Sons, said: “We are supporters of the Hospice so we like to get involved and wanted to help them raise some money.”

Michele Wystawnoha said: “We have done it for the past eight years. It’s a good cause and a good event that everyone can get involved with, even our animals!”

Christie-Anne Cunningham said: “It’s a really good cause and I think everyone knows someone who has been in the hospice or who has links to the hospice so it a good cause to come out and support.”
