Town centre thoroughfare re-opened

Bank Steps
Bank Steps, which link Baillie Street and Yorkshire Street in Rochdale town centre, have re-opened following a month-long refurbishment.
The steps, which were originally built in the 19th century and are part of the Town Centre Conservation area, have been repaired and refurbished to make them safer and more attractive. A hand-rail has also been put in place.
Much of the original stone was used to retain the steps’ traditional look.
Graeme Fitchett, Manager of Marks and Spencer in Rochdale, said:” We’ve had feedback from our customers that they think the steps are looking really good. This will make a significant difference to our footfall as we get ready for the busiest two weeks of the year, so we’re really pleased.”
