Diversion is an ‘accident waiting to happen’

Date published: 09 December 2014

A traffic diversion which is sending traffic along Pitt Street is an “accident waiting to happen” say motorists caught up in chaos caused by the lack of diversion signs.

Rochdale Council put the diversion into Pitt Street in place after Whitworth Road flooded on Wednesday (3 December) evening but once cars are on Pitt Street, there are no further diversion signs.

Some cars arrive at B&M car park and turn left, leading them into a dead end and as a result of this, traffic is backing up along Pitt Street.

Within a fifteen minute period this morning (Tuesday 9 December), our reporter witnessed traffic coming from Pitt Street and through the B&M car park, narrowly missing a fork lift truck and a lady pushing a pram. A number of cars stopping at the end of the road and turning around before heading back down Pitt Street.
