Hog roast offered to Littleborough shoppers on Small Business Saturday

Date published: 08 December 2014

The Pennine Business and Tourism Forum offered shoppers supporting Small Business Saturday a free hog roast if they spent £10 or more in any shop in the Pennine Township on Saturday (6 December).

In addition to the window display competition that was judged by local councillors and an elf in full uniform, members of the Pennine Business and Tourism Forum decided to do something different to attract residents and visitors to spend money in local shops.

Anyone who could provide a receipt from a local business for at least £10 was given a free hog roast sandwich. Steve Appleby of Pennine Hog Roast was set up and serving by 10am and continued throughout the day until all of the meat had been eaten. The weather was kind but cold – just the day for such a treat.

Power was supplied by the adjoining Wheatsheaf Public House who were fully supportive of the effort.

Littleborough and Wardle Academy bands provided festive music to shoppers.

Rochdale Online Director, John Kay, Chairman of the Pennine Business and Tourism Forum, said: “This is another example of how the people of Littleborough work together to make the village the tourism centre for the Rochdale Borough.”
