Council make fresh attempt at repairs to Broadfield Park pond

Date published: 05 December 2014

After Rochdale Online reported in July and early December that local residents were unhappy with the state of the pond in Broadfield Park, the Council is making a fresh attempt to repair the pond.

In recent months, local residents have described the pond as an “absolute disgrace” and a “mud bath”.

It is understood that Rochdale Council undertook some initial repairs to the clay base earlier this year but that did not resolve the issue. Now the latest technology is being used to identify the problem and create a permanent fix.

Mark Widdup, Director of Economy and Environment at Rochdale Council, said: “Following our initial attempts to repair the leaking at the Broadfield Park pond, we arranged for CCTV to record the drains in and out of the pond. This allows us to monitor both changes in water levels and flows from the pond, helping us identify a number of issues. We are now looking at sources of funding and requesting quotes for the repairs.”
