Rochdale police scoop awards at GMP Policing Gala Awards

Members of Rochdale Police have been successful at this year’s GMP Citizens in Policing Gala Awards.

The Rochdale Sergeants picked up the award for Outstanding Team and Special Constable Suzanne Forrest took home the award for Student Officer of the Year.

Held on Sunday 30 November, the awards honoured those who have given up their free time to offer support for GMP.

Held at Lancashire County Cricket Club, the annual event was attended by esteemed guests such as the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Warren Smith, Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy and Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester Jim Battle.

The cadets from the Rochdale Division were also nominated for the GMP Advocates award but missed out to the Museum Team.

Sergeant Carmen Thompson from GMP Rochdale East was nominated for the Outstanding Leadership award but lost out to Robert Mitchell.

Leadership Award was won by Reg Eaton who has been a volunteer for 61 years and Special Inspector Dave Geeson came runner up in this category.

Chief Inspector Umer Khan, lead for volunteers and Specials: "I am proud of all the work done by all our volunteers and specials supporting our Neighbourhood Teams and local communities."

Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester, Jim Battle said: “This was a great event to recognise the valuable contribution that citizens are making to our communities by coming forward and volunteering. This is a time to recognise them and thank them for the great work they all do.”
