Rochdale Rotary Club Charter Night

Date published: 03 December 2014

Rochdale Rotary Club President Bob Chadwick welcomed over 80 Rotarians and friends to the club's 88th Charter Night on Friday 21 November.

Held at the Masonic Building on Richard Street, the Mayor of Rochdale Carol Wardle and Mayoress Beverley Place were guests of honour.

During the evening, Rotary District 1280 Governor Stuart Sawle gave a speech about the founding member of Rotary Paul Harris. This was particularly apt as Rochdale Rotarian Chris Bryning was presented with a Paul Harris fellowship award, Rotary's highest award, for many years of serving the club and supporting its various projects and aims.

Vice President Irene Davidson toasted Rotary International for its worldwide influence, particularly in the near eradication of polio and for its many members throughout the world supporting many different communities despite often various dangerous and hostile conditions.

President of Heywood Rotary Edwin Partridge thanked the Rochdale club for its energy and pursuit of many good causes.

As is traditional on Charter nights the club’s newest member Ben Leach read the original Charter document.

The evening was rounded off by Guest Speaker Andy Hargreaves, a very humorous presenter from Bolton FM and Signal Radio Stoke. He was once a colleague of President Bob Chadwick on Birch and Roch Valley Radio keeping hospital inpatients informed and entertained.

President Bob thanked everyone who attended and added that he looks forward to the rest of his year to raise funds for the NSPCC Childline and Mary’s Meals Charities.
