Springhill Hospice opens Tea Room and Gift Shop

Date published: 02 December 2014

Springhill Hospice has opened a Tea Room and Gift Shop at the Craven on Broad Lane.

Officially opened on Monday (1 December) by the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, the Tea Room is the latest offering by the Hospice team to help raise funds for the Hospice.

Income Services Manager at Springhill Hospice, Sarah Ford said: “The opening went great, we had about 65 people all together and it was a really nice afternoon.”

Springhill Hospice bought the Craven on Broad Lane in April and turned the derelict building into the Hospice fundraising offices. The team have worked hard over the past few months to transform the building into the now functional offices and tea room.

Julie Halliwell, CEO of Springhill Hospice said: “I would like to point out that the fabulous surroundings you are sitting in, bore absolutely no resemblance to this when we exchanged contracts back in April.

“There was no electricity, a gaping hole in the roof and what professed to be a kitchen and now we have a fabulous transformation to what you see today.

“I really would like to congratulate the team for getting us to this stage and all at the same time as undertaking their day jobs.”

The Tea Room will be open selling tea, coffee and cream cakes as well as Springhill Hospice merchandise.

Julie added: “For now, we are starting things on a smaller scale, but after Christmas, we will be putting on a fuller menu, with hot meals, homemade cakes, and lovely afternoon teas, so please spread the word.”

The Tea Room will be open Monday – Sunday from 10am until 19 December.

The Tea Room will then re-open on 5 January.
