Fundraising fashion and beauty show raises over £500 for Headsmatter

A fundraising fashion and beauty show has raised over £500 for charity Headsmatter, a charity run by Middleton resident Theresa Travis and Deb Troops from Saddleworth.

The event held on Friday 21 November was run and orgsained by Kate Jackson who runs Curious Alice Boutique in Oldham and Jordan Naylor, owner of Beautify You.

Kate said: “Competition in beauty and fashion is fierce so we decided to get together and show the latest in clothes and cosmetics in a fun night out.”

Headsmatter is an online support group which offers advice, information and the opportunity to share experiences to those suffering as a result of a traumatic brain injury. The group is also campaigning for change.

Deb Troops said: "We are delighted to be receiving a donation from this fantastic event as we want to use it to buy special ID bracelets and donate them to the new outreach teams of mental health nurses and support workers who will be working with the police on the streets of Rochdale and Oldham.

“We believe that carrying ID empowers people living with brain injury as their behaviour can often be misinterpreted and in crisis situations this can have serious and even tragic consequences. ID tells people dealing with the brain injured what their illness, injury or condition is and why they might be behaving in a strange or unusual way. It can also list medications and contact details. This generous gesture from the girls will go a long way to helping us raise the profile of people living with brain injury."

Deb's daughter, Jordan said: "Headsmatter is personally very close to my heart, as my mum started it after my brother was attacked and left with a brain injury. The name is important because people living with brain injury struggle to get support and services. Heads matter like arms, legs and hearts."

The event included a fashion show, DJs, an auction and a raffle and was described by Deb as “fantastic.”

As well as donating money to Headsmatter, the fundraiser also donated money to Oldham Youth Club, Mahdlo.

Claire Crossfield, Community Development Manager for Mahdlo said: “Lots of our young people will be inspired by these two young women who have decided to start their own businesses but more importantly share their success with others. We are thrilled that they chose us for their first event.”
