Councillors have thanked Acting Chief Executive Linda Fisher for her work over the past five year as she leaves Rochdale Council for a role at Wigan Council.

Leading the thanks was Lead Member for the Armed Forces, Councillor Alan McCarthy, he said: “I would like to thank you for all of your hard work over the past few years and in particular, your commitment to the Armed Forces and your support for the Armed Forces.”

Leader of the Council, Councillor Richard Farnell said: “Speaking for the Labour group, I would like to extend our good wishes to Linda in her new appointment in her home town of Wigan. I wish you every success for the future and thank you for the many contributions you have made to Rochdale over the last five years.”

Councillor Ashley Dearnley said: “There is no doubt that Linda is a hard working employee and she has worked extremely hard in all of her roles at Rochdale. She has been accessible to everyone and is always willing to offer help and support if needed. I wish you well and success in your new role and hope you enjoy the challenges that are ahead. Thank you and best wishes.”

Councillor Shefali Farooq Ahmed, Leader of Rochdale First said: “Thank you for your support of our group, Rochdale First and we know you have faced a number of challenges during your time at the council. You have delivered well in each of your roles and we wish you well in your future.”

Councillor Peter Rush representing the Liberal Democrats added: “I can only echo what my colleagues have said. Thank you Linda for your help when I was Mayor. We have had some good times and I have always had your support. You are a first class person to work for.”

Ms Fisher is leaving her position as the Acting Chief Executive of Rochdale Council to become the Assistant Director of Legal Services in Wigan.

She has worked at Rochdale Council for five years, initially as Head of Legal Services, then Director of Corporate Services and Deputy Chief Executive before stepping up to act as Chief Executive following the departure of Jim Taylor in April.

Responding to councillors comments, Ms Fisher said: “Thank you to everyone for the opportunities that I have had whilst working at Rochdale. I am eternally grateful for the work that I have been able to do. I have been able to work with some fantastic people and I have had the best time. Some times have been tough but we have gotten through them. I think that our work with the Armed Forces and the Armed Forces Covenant has been important and is leading the way for others. Thank you for all of your kind words.”
