Staff member threatened with knife during robbery

Date published: 28 November 2014

A man threatened staff with a knife during a robbery at a shop in Heywood.

At around 6.40pm on Wednesday 26 November 2014, two men walked into the Co-op store on Sutherland Road. One of them walked up to the counter and threatened a worker with a knife while the other man jumped over the counter and stole money from the till.

Both then ran out.

The man with the knife is described as being white, wore black clothing, a black bobble hat, a scarf covering the bottom half of his face, in his late to mid 20s and of medium build.

The second was white, had his face covered, wore a grey hooded top, a black body warmer and grey tracksuit trousers.

Detective Constable Charlotte Humphreys said: “The sight of a man walking into the shop holding a knife must have been terrifying and the staff member did not know whether she would be hurt in anyway.

“If you saw these two men leave the shop at the time of the robbery, I would ask you to call police.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
