Following recent reports by some media organisations suggesting locations across Greater Manchester have been placed on alert over anticipated pre-Christmas terror attacks, Greater Manchester Police say this is not the case.
A police spokesman said: "The current threat level from international terrorism is assessed as severe – this is a national level applied across the United Kingdom. The threat to the North West is no more, or less, than any other region and despite recent media reports, there is no specific intelligence to suggest that the North West is any more vulnerable to an attack than any other area.
"Counter-terrorism Awareness Week is a national campaign to give the public insight into the work of counter-terrorism police - hard work which is undertaken throughout the year to provide guidance, and collect intelligence relating to violent extremism. GMP and the North West Counter Terrorism Unit is grateful for the continued support of regional businesses and will continue to work with these organisations to keep the public safe."
