JD Sports change recruitment policy
Date published: 21 November 2014
The JD Sports Warehouse on Kingsway Business Park is changing its recruitment policy so that 80% of its staff are on a contract basis and 20% are agency staff.
The change follows criticism of the firm for using non-contract agency staff for the majority of its workforce at the Kingsway site.
Though the majority of staff will be contract based, JD will continue to use agency staff across peak times such as Christmas.
A spokesperson for JD Sports said: “After the site opened and following a period of stabilisation, we met with colleagues and Assist (our agency staff supplier), to agree a plan to recruit staff on to JD contracts. This required some internal systems development that is now complete and we are really pleased that staff transfers are in progress.
“We envisage that this will be an ongoing process in line with business requirements, every one working at the site is fully aware of the opportunities available.
“As a retail business we will always need to be flexible and need to use temporary staff, especially at key peak times such as Christmas and we will continue to work closely with Assist.”
