St Andrew's Act of Remembrance

St Andrew's Church, Dearnley was packed on Saturday for an Act of Remembrance featuring children from three local primary schools - St Andrew's C of E, Smithy Bridge and St James's, Wardle.
Appropriate artwork, poetry and passages of prose by children from the three schools was on display in church all weekend.
During the Act of Remembrance hymns were sung to the accompaniment of Junior Blast, conducted by Lee Rigg, and supported by Christine Longhurst on keyboard and cornet. Christine played 'The Last Post'.
Chrissie McCole read a passage about her grandad, a war hero, and poems were read by Rhianne York, the Rev Mike Howarth, Alicia Brown, Emily McRae and the Smithy Bridge Choral Speakers.
Extracts from letters sent home by soldiers in the trenches during the Great War of 1914-18 were also read out during a moving Act of Remembrance.
The Rev Canon Sharon Jones reflected on the ultimate sacrifice made by so many members of St Andrew's in the two world wars.
