Middleton left without water

Date published: 10 November 2014

United Utilities are currently working to resolve an issue that is affecting the water supply in Middleton.

Hundreds of homes have been left without water this morning (Monday 10 November) when their supply suddenly went off.

Untied Utilities reported on their website at 7.50am: “You may have noticed that the water is coming out of your tap slower than usual or may have gone off altogether. We have one of our inspectors looking into this at the moment and as soon as we know what the cause of the problem is we’ll let you know.

“We’re sorry about this and will try and get your taps flowing normally as quickly as we can. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we know what’s causing the problem.”

It is understood that the pumps at a nearby reservoir failed. They have now been restarted by engineers and it is hoped that homes will be back to normal by midday.

Due to the fault, a number of schools have been closed:

  • Parkfield Primary
  • Elmwood Primary
  • Newlands School
  • Hollin Primary
  • St Gabriel’s CE
  • Cardinal Langley RC High School
  • Middleton Technology School

UPDATE 12.30pm

The supply to schools has now been restored, the schools are now re-open and pupils are being advised to return to school for afternoon classes.

United Utilities engineers are still working to restore the water supply to some properties.

When the water supply is restored back to you, because there’s been some disturbance to the pipes in your area you may notice the water is a little cloudy or discoloured.
