Littleborough Remembers

Date published: 09 November 2014

Littleborough showed tremendous community spirit in turning out for the Service of Remembrance today.

Thousands of people descended on Littleborough Square this morning to remember the men and women who have given their lives to protect our country. The police had to close off Church Street due to the number of people in attendance.

The procession, led by Littleborough Public Brass Band, made its way down Hare Hill Road into the Square and included veterans, councillors, fire fighters, police, Brownies, Rainbows, Cubs and Littleborough Rugby Club.

Year 2 pupils Jack Percival and George Holt and Year 5 pupil Louie Pitchforth laid a poppy wreath on behalf of Littleborough Community Primary School, who were taking part in the parade for the first time.

The Service was conducted by Reverend Ron Hicks.

After the main service, Pennine councillors Aftab Hussain, John Hartley, Ann Stott, Robert Clegg, Janet Darnbrough and Janet Emsley visited the Shore Mills Memorial off Shore Road to lay a poppy wreath.
