A police woman has been injured in an incident with a car she tried to stop on Yorkshire Street this evening.
An eyewitness said a large gang of youths, understood to number up to 80, were "kicking off" and he called the police. It is believed a number of different 'gangs' clashed having earlier attended the bonfire at Cronkeyshaw Common.
The eyewitness told Rochdale Online: "The police woman tried to stop the car but it didn't stop it just ploughed on."
A second eye-witness said: "There were youths fighting in the street and some youths got into a car and started to drive off, the police woman tried to stop them driving off and she was dragged by the car along the road."
The extent of the officers' injuries are not yet known, however, a police officer at the scene told Rochdale Online: "It's not good."
Another eye-witness said: "The police woman looked badly hurt, she wasn't moving when they put her in the ambulance."
The car is described as a "blue Honda Civic".
