Hospice president, 91-year-old Margaret Geoghegan MBE, has still got the persuasive powers she had nearly 30 years ago when she started fundraising to build Springhill Hospice.
During the recent opening ceremony to celebrate the refurbishment of the Day Hospice unit, Mrs Geoghegan commented that, “it is a shame the Day Unit's cups and saucers are chipped and mismatched, especially as the Day Hospice is so sparkling, beautiful and new.”
Mrs Geoghegan's comment didn't fall on deaf ears as in the audience was Council Leader Richard Farnell, who secured £1,000 worth of funding to replace the broken crockery at the unit which cares for those with life limiting illnesses.
Julie Halliwell, CEO at Springhill Hospice said: "With the costs of running the Hospice now surpassing the £3m mark, we use every resource we have to it's maximum, so we've not thought twice about the china we eat and drink from, but Mrs Geoghegan put her 'can do/will do' attitude to work again.
“Thanks to Councillor Farnell we have new crockery, which is just another of the little finishing touches that adds to a patient's and visitors stay with us here at the Hospice. We're so grateful to Councillor Farnell, and of course Mrs Geoghegan for her pointed remarks at the opening ceremony."
