Lisa Stansfield - ‘There Goes My Heart’

Date published: 28 October 2014

It’s been a busy 2014 for Grammy nominated, multi BRIT, Ivor Novello and Silver Clef Award winning singer Lisa Stansfield. Returning to the studio to record with long-time song writing partner Ian Devaney (The Bodyguard and Indecent Proposal soundtracks), she made her first musical statement in a decade with emphatic album ‘Seven’ earlier this year. Charting at number 13 in the UK album charts, and number one on the Soul Chart, the release proved - without question - that Lisa’s popularity hasn’t diminished in her 10 years away from the limelight.

On October 20 2014 ‘Seven’ received a makeover as a double disc bumper edition, suitably titled ‘Seven+’. Disc one consists of the original album in its entirety, along with the additional inclusion of new single ‘There Goes My Heart’, a golden highlight that fits seamlessly into the context of Seven’s original track listing.

“One of UK pop-soul's best voices” - The Guardian

Disc two, on the other hand, provides a selection of remixes. Featuring Danish/German soul production duo Cool Million, Andy Lewis, Snowboy, Moto Blanco and others, the collection transforms songs from the original release, creating brand new musical climates for Lisa’s distinctive voice and character to shine.

“A duvet of an album, warm and indulgent”  - Classic Pop

Marking Lisa’s powerful return to the international stage, ‘Seven’ cemented Lisa’s position as one of the UK’s most important singers. Underpinned heavily with strong themes of love and relationships, the album works on one hand as a vicarious escape from the plagues of infatuation, and on the other as a sophisticated collection of dance floor hip shakers.

“A lot of the album is about the trap that a woman has got herself into - an unrequited, doomed or mismatched love - and how to get herself out of it…if she can,” said Lisa.

Warmly received by critics and fans alike, the album was a welcome rebirth for the Rochdale icon, who can boast sales of nearly 20 million records and a string of international top 10 hits. The Times claimed that ‘Seven’ proves “Lisa still has the most distinctive and sensuous voice in soul-pop”, The Sun described it as “languid and wonderful, a quality return from a singer with nothing to prove but still plenty to give” and the Sunday Express stated simply that it’s “beautifully arranged, beautifully recorded and very well sung”.

Adding a further string to her bow, she will be starring in an independent film about northern soul. Charting the phenomenon that rose out of Northern England, the film – which is titled ‘Northern Soul’ - will see Lisa team up with a renowned cast of UK actors, including Steve Coogan and Ricky Tomlinson, to pay homage to the musical genre that has influenced her own style. It is out now in UK cinemas, DVD and Blu-Ray.

As the deluxe edition of the first album in a decade from one of the UK’s premier recording artists, ‘Seven+’ expands Lisa’s reborn triumph into unchartered realms, showcasing further examples of her unparalleled contribution to British soul music.
