Rochdale Music Service Open Day

Date published: 12 October 2014

Rochdale Music Service held an open day yesterday (Saturday 11 October) to encourage people to try new instruments.

Held at the Highwood Centre in Norden, the open day gave those in attendance the opportunity to try a number of instruments from string instruments to percussion instruments and keyboards.

Liz Jacobs, Acting Head of Services who organised the event, said: “Sometimes people get given an instrument to play and don’t often get the chance to chose their instrument. With this open day we thought it would be a good opportunity for people to try a few different instruments and see if there is anything they like playing.”

This was the first open day held by the service and it attracted a number of young children.

“We have seen quite a few people coming along and trying things out and then we have seen people signing up for lessons which is good,” added Liz.

Rochdale Music Service seeks to provide the opportunity and access to music activities that meet the needs of individual schools and the wider community of the borough of Rochdale.

Liz said: “I think we would like to hold this event again and maybe try and do it in different venues. This was just an idea I had in the summer so it has been nice to hold it and see what interest it gets.”
