Rochdale Police Station open day

Date published: 12 October 2014

Rochdale Police Station held an open day yesterday (Saturday 11 October) to give people the opportunity to meet and interact with the police.

The open day, which was the first of its kind to be held at Rochdale Police Station, was held to help shift the perceptions of the police often held by the public.

Chief Inspector Umer Khan, who organised the event, said: “People will often have a perception of the police from the news or from TV and we wanted to show people that we are not like that. By doing an event like this we can interact with the community and show them that we are here for them.”

The open day included junior police uniforms for children to try on, a detective solve crime game, fancy dress, crime prevention gadgets and tours of the old magistrates court.

Chief Inspector Khan added: “We have been given access to the old court building so we have been giving tours and mock trials and that has been going down really well.”

Held from 10.30am, the police station was filled with families and young children enjoying the event.

“We are really pleased with how it has all gone and we have seen a lot of people coming along so it has been really good and really well received,” added Chief Inspector Khan.
