Jason Goostrey jailed for four years and 12 weeks

Date published: 10 October 2014

Jason Goostrey has been jailed for four years and 12 weeks for offences including robbery and dangerous driving for crimes that occurred in January.

Goostrey, 43 (born 10/02/1971), of  Albert Royds Street, wrestled Petrus Community Store manager Claire Jeffries out of a Ford Transit van on Hamer Lane.

Ms Jeffries tried to stop him by clinging onto the van but ended up being dragged along the road.

Goostrey crashed the van into a row of parked cars and tried to flee on foot.

Good Samaritan, David Tully saw what was going on and rugby tackled him to the floor and detained him until police arrived.

Commenting on the sentencing, David said: “I am happy with the outcome and think that it is a good thing that I got involved and got him sentenced and locked up. The police thanked me for getting involved.

“I am glad that I got involved with what was going on because I believe he was well known for a number of crimes so it is good that he is now locked up. At the end of the day it is another rogue off of the streets and is a happy outcome for everyone.”

Goostrey was sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday 22 September.
