RSPCA shops looking for volunteers

RSPCA shop on Oldham Road
The two RSPCA shops based in Rochdale are looking for volunteers.
The newly opened shop on Oldham Road and the Yorkshire Street shop are both in need of new volunteers to help with every day operations.
Shirley Mellor, shops area coordinator for RSPCA Rochdale, said: “We have lovely volunteers at our shops but we do need a few extra hands and it just about getting the word out there really.”
The shop on Oldham Road is looking for volunteers on a Monday, Friday and Saturday and the Yorkshire Street shop is looking for volunteers on a Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Those who want to help at a shop would be involved with the day-to-day running of the shop and would work in areas covering window displays, till work, behind the scenes work and customer service.
Shirley added: “I can say that every day is 100% different with the role very much focused on customer service. We work with the volunteers on what they want to do so if they come in and if they don’t want to work on a till then that is fine and we can have them working in other areas of the shop.”
Anyone over the age of 16 can volunteer at the shops with the RSPCA working around any prior commitments or time constraints that the volunteers may have.
“It is up to the volunteer how much or how little time they do. For example, we have people coming in to do a few hours every Tuesday so we are very flexible with our volunteers and the time they can do,” said Shirley.
Stores in Middleton and Heywood are also looking for volunteers during the weekend.
Shirley said: “It is mainly the two Rochdale stores that need the volunteers but I know the shops in Middleton and Heywood do struggle at a weekend and could do with some volunteers.”
Anyone interested in volunteering at any of the shops can email Shirley Mellor at sm.rspcarochdale@btconnect.com or can call into the shop and speak to members of staff.
