Date published: 07 October 2014

Gemma Glossop is in the running for a top national honour having been nominated for the Young Achiever - Housing and Community Development category of the Women in Housing Awards in recognition of her success in attracting millions of pounds in funding, managing key developments and securing training and apprentice opportunities for young people.

The awards recognise the contribution that women make to the housing sector and honour those like Gemma who act as pioneers and role models.

Since joining RBH in 2011 as Development and Regeneration Programme Manager, Gemma has brought in almost £4m of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency and delivered 10 schemes which provided 182 new homes, with many other projects currently ongoing.

Gemma has led the regeneration and redevelopment of one of RBH’s priority neighbourhoods - Lower Falinge. This involved the demolition of homes and the redevelopment of 30 new family houses and bungalows which are on schedule to be completed later this year.

As part of this project she also secured apprenticeships of up to 12 months across a range of trades for five local young people.

Gemma is currently project-managing the construction of RBH’s flagship Extra Care facility at Hare Hill in Littleborough which will enable vulnerable adults to lead independent lives while having expert care available whenever needed.

Clare Tostevin, RBH Director of Communities, said: “We are very proud of Gemma’s achievements in enhancing our communities across the borough. “She symbolises our

mutual values and our commitment to working for the benefit of customers and thoroughly deserves this award nomination.”

Gemma said: “Working for a mutual society means that I am encouraged to find new ways of meeting housing needs and suggest innovative solutions to any problems we encounter.

“I’m thrilled to be nominated for this award and would like to thank colleagues across the society who continue to make my role so enjoyable and rewarding.”

The Women in Housing Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Manchester on 13 November where pop legend Lulu will be the special guest.
