Boy who died at Whitworth Quarry named as Logan Wood

Date published: 03 October 2014

The 12-year-old boy who died after falling from a motorbike at Whitworth Quarry on Wednesday (1 October) has been named as Logan Wood.

Logan, from Oswaldtwistle, is believed to have suffered from a heart attack after he fell from a motorbike on to the motocross dirt track.

He was a pupil at Mount Carmel RC High School in Accrington and has been described by his family as “our cheeky monkey”.

In a statement issued by the family, it said: “Our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin Logan. Our cheeky little monkey will always be remembered for his courage, wit, sense of humour, his love of life and all its adventures.

“He was tragically taken from us doing what he loved the most, riding his motorbike. He was a real outdoors boy and loved playing cricket for Oswaldtwistle and church cricket clubs and football for school.

“If he wasn’t playing sport he would be out on his BMX or scooter showing off the tricks he could do. A real adrenaline junkie.

“He was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Our boy Logan.”

A post mortem examination has yet to take place.
