12-year-old boy dies after cardiac arrest at Whitworth Quarry

A 12-year-old boy has died after suffering from a cardiac arrest after he fell from a quad bike at Whitworth Quarry this afternoon (Wednesday 1 October).
Police were called by the ambulance service at around 2.45pm to Cowm Leisure Track at Whitworth Quarry on Tong Lane to reports that a boy had fallen from a bike.
He was taken to Fairfield Hospital by land ambulance with serious injuries but died a short time later.
Air Ambulance and Mountain Rescue also attended the scene due to the terrain.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy's death is under way.
In a statement from Rossendale Borough Council a spokesperson said: “We aware of the fatal incident that happened at Cowm Quarry, Whitworth.
“Our sympathies are with the boy’s family and friends at this tragic time.
“We are working with the Police and Health and Safety Executive as part of the ongoing investigation into this incident.”
