Fly tipping on Industry Road
Rubbish that has been fly-tipped on Industry Road, Rochdale is an “eye sore” according to one resident.
The rubbish, which contains bricks, plastic wrapping and wood has been on the land for around six months.
One resident, who did not want to be named said: “It’s not fair. It’s an eye sore. The land doesn’t even belong to the building, it is a public garden for everyone to use.”
It is understood that the building responsible for the rubbish is The Old Bricklayers pub. The resident now believes that the building is currently operating as a mosque.
“The building is being used but they are still doing work to the inside of it. Since I took the picture more rubbish has been added. When the wind is blowing it causes our houses to become dirty because of the sand and dust” said the resident.
The resident also added that she contacted Rochdale Council about the rubbish and has not had a response. They added: “I phoned the council about it and got an email asking for the location and details even though I had already told them all of that and since then I haven’t heard anything.”
Mark Widdup, Director of Economy and Environment at Rochdale Council said: “We were recently made aware of an incident of fly-tipping on private land behind The Old Bricklayers pub. We are currently working with the landowners to ensure its removal by the end of the week as we endeavour to deal with fly-tipping incidents as a matter of priority.
“If residents witness fly-tipping, a description of those involved, their vehicles or confirmation of their address could be invaluable."
