Middleton Shopping Centre and Convergys Intelligent Contact, have been nominated for Heart Safe awards.
The awards, which are organised by charity Hand on Heart in association with defibrillator manufacturer Physio-Control, are to celebrate businesses, individuals and public organisations that have invested in creating ‘Heart Safe Environments’ or have saved lives either at work or during leisure activities.
Lee Garrett, Security Manager at Middleton Shopping Centre, who have been nominated for Shopping Centre or Retail Business of the Year award, said: “It’s brilliant to be nominated. It really gets the message across about what we are doing. We have been doing this since about 2007 and we were nominated by someone else for the award so that’s really nice.”
A spokesperson for Convergys Intelligent Contact, also based in Middleton, said: “We would like to thank Hand on Heart for short listing Convergys Intelligent Contact in the category, SME of The Year. Here at Middleton we are committed to the wellbeing of our people and to date have successfully trained over 800 advisors in life support and defibrillator use.
“We feel the training is invaluable to our advisors, giving them the confidence and knowledge to act should an emergency arise. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Hand on Heart and wish all other nominees the best of luck.”
12 young people die from cardiac arrest each week in the UK - a number Hand on Heart is committed to reducing. Every penny raised from the event goes directly to providing defibrillators and training to schools across the UK.
Over 150 nominations were received in fifteen categories for the awards which will be held on Thursday 2 October in Manchester.
