Two men charged after rooftop incident

Date published: 24 September 2014

Arran Mark Crossan, born 15/12/90, of Manchester New Road, Middleton, and Bradley Smith, born 7/8/94, of Salisbury Road, Eccles, have been charged with three offences of criminal damage and five offences of robbery.

At around 1.10am on Monday, 22 September 2014, police received a report about an aggravated burglary on School Street, Bury, in which five masked men threatened the householders with machetes.

Shortly afterwards police were then called to Valley Mill Lane, to a report of men kicking at a door. Officers attended and found two men, believed to have been involved in the previous burglary, on the roof of nearby flats.

The area was cordoned off and force negotiators went to the scene. At around 8.30am the two men came down from the roof after a number of slates were thrown from the roof.

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the robbery on School Street. It is believed up to three offenders made off in a black Audi A5 S Line saloon, stolen from outside the house.

This car was recovered at around 11am on Tower Street, Radcliffe, on the day of the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 9592 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
