RSPCA shop set to open on Oldham Road

Date published: 20 September 2014

The ninth RSPCA shop in the borough will be opening next Friday (26 September) at 421 Oldham Road.

Shirley Mellor, shops area coordinator for RSPCA Rochdale, said: “We had been looking for a location in Rochdale for some time and luckily for us this one came up. By a strange coincidence it has the same landlord as our shop in Castleton so it was an easy decision to make after we knew that.”

The RSPCA acquired the lease for the shop at the beginning of September and has been working on refurbishing the shop ever since.

Shirley added: “Unfortunately it was left in a bit of a sorry state so the landlord has done a lot of work to it and then once we got the lease, we have been doing the work so we have had the flooring done and our builders have been in doing the shop fit. It is all starting to come together.”

The shop will be officially opened at 10am on Friday 26 September by Councillor Karen Danczuk, a keen supporter of the RSPCA.

“We are really pleased Karen is coming along for the ribbon cutting. She and Simon are big supporters of ours so it is nice that she is coming along and doing the honour,” said Shirley.

On the day, shoppers will be treated to a sale and special opening offers as well as receiving a raffle ticket to be entered into a free prize draw.

Shirley added: “It’s all coming together and we’re looking forward to the opening.”
