Heywood and Middleton by-election set for 9 October

The by-election in the Heywood and Middleton constituency following the death of MP Jim Dobbin is to be held on 9 October.
A writ setting the date for the contest in Heywood and Middleton was moved by the Labour party in the Commons at the start of business today.
Jim, who had represented Heywood and Middleton seat since 1997, died at the weekend at the age of 73 while on a Parliamentary trip to Poland.
At the 2010 general election, he retained his seat with a majority of 5,971.
